Maybe that vinyl show looks good? That CBGB's movie was CRAP! Discuss.

Did anyone catch that Montage of Heck Nirvana doc? I kind of wish I didn't watch it. It made me completely insane, and not because it has some rough footage of Kurt nodding off with Francis's nanny, or any time Courtney was on camera, either annpying old home videos or as her plastic surgery cat face currently, but the way it's edited is terrible. Half the doc was weird audio collages (maybe Kurt's? Who knows, thanks doc) with animations of maybe Kurt's drawings? Not sure what the point of all that was except to add to this general chaos like it was some terrible public access show from the 90's. Possibly half of it was worth watching and even then it was a depressing reality that Kurt was a serious mess. Also his daughter was an executive producer so she must have loved going through all that footage of fucked up dad.
Just saw that Subpop has the recordings from that like some kind of soundtrack - honestly the whole thing was so bad I'm kind of on the fence about it. It's hard not to feel dirty for everyone involved. Even that hack sort of incesticide illustration.

That Elliott Smith doc was cool.

I need that LP too. The doc was good, not amazing though. It was nice to see how many people truly loved Elliott.

I seen Montage of Heck. It was okay, but it was disturbing. seeing things I felt I shouldn't have seen. I didn't mind the audio collages and such
Heaven Adores You was good as well. I made a point to buy the Blu-Ray to help support the guys that made it.
I watched the first episode of Vinyl....not sure I will go back. It was 2 hours of my life I will never get back.

Hey guys, Checked out Vinyl this weekend - there was definitely some crap but I think I'll keep checking it out. Lots of typical Scorsese shots, real stylized, making Mean Streets over and over like the drug scenes in the car but the late 70's for music is the perfect setting for a show. They should have plenty to work with between hip hop and punk. They keep dropping great references to the good stuff happening like Suicide and Captain Beefheart. Of course that fictional band is going to be shit and that storyline about not giving a shit but the music business stuff is great. Making the band pay for everything and then the payola with the radio stations….exactly why this whole stupid thing fell apart. I guess I want someone to explore that idea of music being a business but still being innovative and interesting, like how you would balance that as a record company. The way Bobby Carnevale’s character starts with the blues guy int that club…and how he goes out on his own - I hope they stick to the origins of his story and how music went from that rock blues of the 50’s to a complete angry mess in the late 70’s. Good stuff.

I finally watched Vinyl. It was better than I thought it would be after hearing a lot of bad reviews, but that ending was REALLY far fetched. I think it has a lot of potential.

Oh the Mercer Arts center collapsing on his face? Yea, true, but no one was actually at a show, let alone the NY Dolls. That's not as crazy as that someone would survive that. I thought that whole sequence was a dream or something - but no he's a superhero or something? Lots of potential and DICE was freaking awesome, too bad he's not going to be in any more episodes.

Dice deserves a freaking award, he was amazing! I was thinking the building falling was a metaphor for how hard the Dolls were rocking, but I guess not.

Did either of you guys see Straight Outta Compton? Missed when it was out and now the Oscars got me wanting to maybe check this out? I know it's a HIGHLY suspect version of events but was it entertaining? Best Script? Doubt it.
