I wonder if this is the complete list?
If so, I see just a couple of things. Hope Sandoval 7" and the Lush box set. But neither of them are worth waiting in line for.
I haven't heard if this is the last year or not.
I have a record scheduled to be pressed on the 20th. Not sure if I should put it on sale before RSD, on RSD, or after.

I think it's a partial one, I'm sure they'll keep announcing stuff as it comes in and gets announced by different labels. There isn't an official list anyway, this seems to be 'leaked' info from who knows where.
I guess if people keep buying stuff, they'll keep doing it.
If I had a release I'd try to go for it on the RSD date, just with the amount of traffic in stores and people there to pick up tons of stuff....

I'd love that John Frusciante release. Is there talk of ending RSD?? I'd actually be all for that.

I say pull the plug on RSD. When it started, the vinyl sales were growing, but now, record sales are at an all time high. At this point, do indie record stores still need that added 'push'? I feel that the whole thing has turned into a cash grab. I'm over it.

I'm just pissed that there are lines around the block last time I tried to go. I wish I had the time these days to camp out for records. I always want affordable reissues and stuff but they also seem to be putting out the same popular records over and over in weirder formats. A 78 rpm 10 inch set of Pet Sounds? Anyway the early years were the best (ha the words of a true record snob) the best things I scored probably were those live pavement records and the split singles with people covering each other, Beck and Jay Reatard, the Sonic Youth and Jay Retard splits and of course that Can cover record Malkmus did (thanks again Darren) so it was all worth it I guess. I just see less and less stuff that looks even remotely interesting as it goes on and on. But do I want little record stores to keep being supported? Sure do.

Official list available - www.recordstoreday.com/NewsLooks like some crazy Lips stuff. I'd like to hear Pinbacks Blue Screen Life again, that's a good one. Mac DeMarco's got one from Captured Tracks....did I mention I was in there the other day and saw that boxed set of unreleased singles for $125. Shit I DEFINITELY want this - A 16-track LP of Mac DeMarco demos, Another (Demo) One, recorded in his bedroom. This could be cool - A 7" compiling Townes Van Zandt covers by the late Jason Molina Still not sure if these demos are from another seven inch I already have - Jay Reatard's Blood Visions 10th anniversary reissue on red vinyl, with a bonus demos 7"

I want the Lips stuff. Clutch, John Frusciante. In ALL REALITY though, I still have DOZENS of LPs still in shrink wrap from past RSD days. It never ends. I gonna tighten the belt in 2016. This is all too crazy. Enough is enough!!! I flat out can not digest it all.

I lucked up...pretty much everything I on the list I can live with out..which means more money for my own thing.
I could do without RSD as well. I agree that the early years were the best. There was no standing in line, you just went in and got what you needed. I was even able to walk into Third Man Records in Nashville and buy the copper Raconteurs record 2 weeks after RSD.
I think RSD may actually hurt the indie store...at least the really small ones. They have to order a shit ton of records to put on the shelf. Just because they order it, doesn't mean they get it...so you put in a large order full of what you know will sell, but it's limited so you might get 1 or 2 copies instead of the 30 you ordered. Some other titles you have a hunch might move, but not for sure, so you order them just to make sure you have something for RSD.
A large percentage of the records they do get sit on the shelf months and years afterwards. They can't return the dead stock, so they have to slash the prices in order to get them out the door. Thousands of dollars spent for one day of high sales only to have a bunch of dead stock you can't get rid of for years.

My next FER release is getting pressed early next month. I should have them in hand by RSD. Good idea or bad idea to sell them online that day?

My next FER release is getting pressed early next month. I should have them in hand by RSD. Good idea or bad idea to sell them online that day? I had the same dilemma with my Shockwave Riderz release. I say if you can scoop RSD and sell if before, I think that would be your best bet. If not, I'd say wait at least a week for people to get another paycheck.

That's a good idea, if you're confident the pressing place isn't going to have any issues then you should try to get this out there before everyone spends their money. The good old days - it was nice to be there in the beginning that's for sure.
I've heard that argument from smaller shops that they have to pick up a bunch of stuff they don't even think they can sell just to get the good stuff - so really they don't make any money on RSD unless people happen to just pickup impulse purchases the day of. But now it seems so crazy - who's going to wait in line and then not run to the few things they want and get the hell out of there?
Darren - we all have a sickness. It's pointless to fight it now.

Remember that guy from the documentary, Vinyl? He had it the worst. I wonder how he reacts/reacted to RSD?
