You guys see Mike from PIAPTK has a cool idea? "Hey everyone! I'm trying to go all co-op style on the new American Monoxide LP (Dimitri Manos from Dr Dog and Golden Boots). It's weirdo quirky indietronicapop. Looking for some labels to throw in for 50+ copies. $300 and you get whatever share that ends up buying at cost. The idea is to get a BUNCH of labels to go in, promote the record (and all labels) to everyone else's fans.| We are going to do a mini-zine insert with some extra art and a 1/4 page ad for each of the labels. No accounting necessary, you throw in a few hundred bucks, you get 50ish records at cost and sell them at whatever price we all decide on ($12-15) and keep the money. For more background on who I am, check out www.MichaelDixonVinylArt.com. "

Wow, I love this idea, not familiar with Dr. Dog though but I could see a group of tiny labels working on some kind of subscription type of system to get out these tiny releases. The superfans could potentially break even while funding a tiny slice of the release. I was thinking of something like this from now on with you Darren. Not sure how much longer I can keep up putting stuff out by myself, but teaming up and just helping fund things seems more possible. I'm terrible at the business side so let someone like you or Mike handle that stuff and I'll just fork over the money. Whatdya say?

Yea, like this concept and if I liked the band, like that Grandaddy thing for instance, I would have done this exact thing for that. The three of us should be able to come up with something by the way.......

Also I think I saw a post that Mike was selling all his lathe cutters? Wonder what the story is there - also do you think he was cutting all those copies for the joyful noise club? Have to ask him.

Yeah man. I think he was cutting all those Joyful releases. I didn't hear he was selling the lathes, man, those lathes seemed to be the ONLY way a label like that could actually generate revenue.

From Mike:
I've got some record lathes for sale. Time to thin the herd and pay off some credit cards. These will be fully functional units and will include everything you need to get started (except a standard PA amplifier to power the cutter head). Also includes tech support
Then I read about doing all kinds of cutting and hiring people for his business so maybe it was just to get rid of a couple old ones he had just lying around.....living the dream.
